At Gillibrand Primary School, we take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain seriously. We actively promote the fundamental British Values, ensuring they are introduced, discussed, and embedded throughout the ethos and daily life of the school. These values are taught alongside our school values and rules, reinforcing a consistent and respectful approach to behaviour, learning, and citizenship.

Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship lie at the heart of our curriculum. These areas help children understand the difference between right and wrong, and the importance of respecting and tolerating differences in a diverse and modern Britain. Our carefully planned ASPIRATION curriculum enables pupils to make meaningful progress towards these aims. Through engaging lessons, enriching activities, visits, visitors, and our school’s core values, we provide pupils with opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others in the ‘community of communities’ in which they live.

All areas of the curriculum contribute to developing pupils’ understanding of British Values, with particular emphasis in subjects such of RE and PSHE, which offer rich opportunities for deeper reflection and discussion. To ensure that British Values remain a high priority across the school community, a member of the Senior Leadership Team (currently Mr Moat) leads a dedicated British Values assembly each month. Our pupils embrace these values with enthusiasm and demonstrate a strong understanding of how they apply to their own lives. Additioanly, pupils partake in a weekly Picture News assembly.  The children learn about an exciting or important story that has been in the news. Through discussion and reflection, opportunity is given fro pupils io consider their responsed to the story and are invited to feedback their thoughts. They reflect on each story and learn how they relate to British Values and Protetced Characteristics.
