Our ASPIRATION Curriculum
At Gillibrand Primary School, we have combined the use of well-researched schemes of work with the expertise of highly skilled school leaders to design an exciting and engaging curriculum. Our aim is to deliver a curriculum that fosters positive ASPIRATION in all our children.
The ASPIRATION Curriculum is a custom curriculum that our school has written, tailored to meet the needs of our children and the communities they live in. It is both sequential and progressive, enabling children to become curious learners who are confident in asking questions and finding solutions. The curriculum builds on children’s prior knowledge and experiences, beginning in the Early Years and continuing throughout their time at school.
It has been carefully designed to ensure that the knowledge gained by children is tangible and sequential, allowing them to apply their new learning in meaningful ways. As children progress through school, they are equipped to connect new knowledge with prior skills, which develop and deepen over time.
Our bespoke curriculum delivers learning that is accessible to all pupils, resulting in high pupil progress and enhanced pupil engagement. It reflects our locality, celebrates diversity and difference, and is underpinned by key Golden Threads that are unique to our school’s vision.
Golden Threads of the ASPIRATION Curriculum
Aspiration and Legacy
Aligned with our school vision—"We Nurture Children’s Dreams"—this golden thread focuses on developing pupils’ aspirations and helping them understand how to leave a positive legacy. Throughout their journey at Gillibrand, pupils learn about significant individuals and gain a broader understanding of the jobs and careers they can pursue in the future.
Community and Culture
As a community school, Chorley plays a central role in our curriculum. Pupils explore its geographical and historical significance and are encouraged to make a meaningful difference within their local community—both now and in the future. The curriculum also provides opportunities to learn about other communities, enabling pupils to make comparisons and develop respect, empathy, and global awareness.
Difference and Diversity
In an ever-changing society, understanding and valuing difference is essential. Through carefully planned learning experiences, pupils are taught the importance of respect and inclusion. They are encouraged to explore and celebrate diversity, helping them become thoughtful, inclusive citizens who are well-prepared for life in modern Britain.
